Local Tourist's sound is a fusion of tender psychedelia, existential poetry and literature, and the punk rock canon, creating a balance of vulnerability and defiance. Upon discovering Christchurch's music scene, leader Erin Umstead formed the band with bassist/guitarist Joe Sampson and drummer Rory Dalley, whose friendship quickly blossomed while playing together.

Despite visa complications, they managed to record their album "Other Ways of Living" before Umstead had to unexpectedly leave New Zealand. The album, co-produced by Umstead and Sampson, captivates with its intricate details, blending mellow vocals with ethereal guitar tones and steady but buoyant production.
